Ask AI about a PDF with page-based evidence, not a vague upload
Check whether the file is text or a scan, ask a defined question and verify tables, conditions and references against the original pages.
In brief
A PDF upload can contain text, scanned images and tables that different products process differently. Define the question and check the relevant pages instead of treating an upload as proof of complete understanding.
This is useful for manuals and reports where a footnote or table changes the answer.
Check the file before the question
Try selecting a paragraph and inspect tables at readable zoom. If the file is a scan, choose a product that supports the required visual input or an appropriate OCR workflow. Remove irrelevant sensitive pages using a proper redaction/export route, not a visible cover that leaves underlying text.
Ask for a bounded result
Request the procedure, requirement or comparison you need, naming the relevant section when known. Ask the model to identify uncertainty and cite the supporting page. A whole-document summary can omit the one exclusion that decides your task.
Verify before using the answer
Open the source page and read the surrounding text. Reconcile table headers, units and footnotes. Keep the original file as the authority; if the answer mixes page references or cannot support a claim, correct it before using it in work or publication.
Tools for this task
Before you act
File limits and visual processing depend on the model, endpoint and plan. Text extraction alone may miss diagrams, and OCR can misread numbers or reading order.
What to do next
- Check the PDF’s readability, pages and sensitive information before sharing.
- Ask a specific question with requested page/section references and explicit unknowns.
- Compare the answer with the cited pages, especially tables, dates and exceptions.
