Write an AI prompt with an answer you can check

Specify the task, evidence and output, then test the result against concrete requirements rather than asking for “the best answer.”

✓ A role label alone is not a task specification.✓ An example output can clarify format without proving accuracy.

In brief

A useful prompt states what the model must do and how you will judge the result. “Help with my project” leaves far more room for guessing than a defined task, supplied context and a requested output.

You can improve an everyday request without learning a collection of magic phrases.

Replace praise with requirements

Instead of “act as a brilliant expert,” say what the answer must include: three options, their trade-offs and a next action. Distinguish material the model may use from instructions it should follow. If you want an answer based only on supplied text, ask it to identify missing information rather than fill it in.

Use a small reusable brief

For a software comparison, name the device, required features and spending limit, then ask for evidence needed to choose. Do not invent product names or a price to complete the template. LA24X’s local brief builder can organize these fields without sending them to a model.

Task: Compare these supplied options for my stated use.
Context: [device, use and constraints]
Evidence: [the information I provide]
Output: trade-offs, missing facts and a next step
If evidence is missing, mark it unknown rather than inventing it.

Check an actual output

Ask whether it respected the format, used your constraints and separated known facts from guesses. Check important claims against primary sources. If it ignored compatibility, add a compatibility requirement and retest the same task; a longer prompt is not automatically better.

Before you act

Clear instructions reduce ambiguity but do not guarantee correct facts. Keep private data out unless you understand the service’s processing and have a reason to share it.

What to do next

  1. Write one concrete task and the intended reader or use.
  2. Supply the necessary evidence, constraints and desired format.
  3. Compare the answer with a short checklist and revise the missing instruction, not the whole prompt at random.
