PS Remote Play setup on PS5 and PS4: phone and rest-mode checks

Follow the console settings, enable wake from rest mode and test your phone at home before troubleshooting an outside connection.

In brief

PS Remote Play streams from your own PS5 or PS4 to a supported device. The console runs the game, so it must be reachable and correctly configured; installing the mobile app alone is not enough.

A home test lets you fix account and wake settings while you still have physical access to the console.

Prepared from the linked primary documentation. Examples explain a procedure or calculation; they are not a device benchmark or a hands-on product review.

Prepare the console while you can reach it

Choose the menu path for your console, then check rest-mode access separately. Do this while you are still near the device. The names below follow Sony’s English instructions; labels may differ in a translated menu.

  • PS5: Settings → System → Remote Play → Enable Remote Play.
  • PS5 rest mode: System → Power Saving → Features Available in Rest Mode. Enable internet connectivity and turning on the PS5 from the network.
  • PS4: Settings → Remote Play Connection Settings → Enable Remote Play. Review Account Management → Activate as Your Primary PS4 for the account you use.
  • PS4 rest mode: Settings → Power Save Settings → Set Features Available in Rest Mode. Enable internet connectivity and turning on the PS4 from the network.

Test the real path

Connect the console by Ethernet where possible. First verify the app can find it locally, then try your intended outside connection. Sony lists a 5 Mbps minimum in each direction and recommends at least 15 Mbps for best performance; latency, congestion and stability still affect play. These numbers are not a quality guarantee.

Separate connection from picture quality

If the console cannot be found, check account, console state and Remote Play settings first. If connected but the image stalls, test a less congested network and available stream-quality settings. Do not publish router credentials or disable broad firewall protection to follow an unknown remote-access guide.

A five-minute check before leaving

Install the official PS Remote Play app from your device’s app store, sign in with the console account and select PS5 or PS4. Connect once while you are near the console, then disconnect through the app and confirm that the console enters the state you intended.

For a mobile-data test, turn off the phone’s Wi-Fi and enable Mobile Data → Use Mobile Data in the app where available. This test can use your allowance. If a home test works but this one fails, investigate the outside network or mobile-data permissions before changing the console setup.

Before you act

Some content does not support Remote Play. Network quality and upload speed at the console matter, and using mobile data can consume a substantial allowance.

What to do next

  1. Enable Remote Play in the console’s system settings and sign in to the app with the same PlayStation account.
  2. If using rest mode, enable its internet connection and network wake options.
  3. Test inside the home network, then on the actual remote connection before relying on it.
