Delete a PDF page or redact text? Protect the right information
Choose between extracting pages and real PDF redaction. Learn why a black rectangle, cropping or a smaller file is not proof that private text was removed.
In brief
Extract pages when the entire unwanted page can be omitted. Use a real redaction workflow when sensitive information sits on a page you still need to share. Drawing a black shape over text is not the same as removing the underlying content.
A document can look clean while retaining text, comments or other information. Decide what must leave the file, not merely what should disappear from view.
Start with the smallest document you need to send
Suppose a six-page packet contains a public application on pages 1–2 and private supporting records on pages 3–6. If the recipient only needs the application, extracting pages 1–2 avoids sending the other page content. Check the new file’s page count and order. Do not send the original packet alongside it out of habit.
Page selection alone is not a promise to remove attachments, metadata or every hidden object. Treat the result as a document that still needs review, especially when the source came from another person.
When the private text is on a required page
If the application page itself includes an account number, deleting the entire page may defeat the purpose. An actual redaction tool is designed to remove selected content when redactions are applied and the result is saved. Adobe documents redaction and sanitisation as separate parts of preparing a PDF.
A drawn rectangle or annotation can cover a number without deleting it. Cropping may change what is displayed rather than remove underlying information. Do not use a screenshot-looking preview as your only evidence that the content has gone.

Check the saved output, not the editing screen
Work on a copy and reopen the file you plan to send. Try searching for a known removed phrase and selecting text near the redacted area; inspect comments, attachments and document properties with appropriate software. Passing these simple checks is useful, but it is not a forensic certification.
If the information is highly sensitive or subject to a formal disclosure process, follow that organisation’s approved redaction procedure. Do not rely on an unfamiliar online tool or upload a confidential original merely because it promises automatic cleaning.
Where the local page tools fit
Use LA24X’s Split / Extract PDF or PDF Page Organizer for selecting and ordering ordinary pages within the stated file limits. They work locally and can help prepare a shorter document. They do not replace a redaction tool, validate a signature or certify that a document is safe to publish.
For sharing permissions rather than file contents, review the file-link controls separately. Share a Google Drive file without making its link public
Tools for this task
Before you act
LA24X’s page tools extract and reorder pages; they are not redaction or document-sanitisation tools. Keep the original private and review a separate output before sharing it.
What to do next
- List the specific pages or information that must not be shared.
- If the whole page is unnecessary, extract only the required pages into a separate file.
- If you need the page but not the private passage, use a tool with an actual redaction feature and apply it.
- Review hidden-information or sanitisation options as appropriate.
- Open the saved output again and inspect text, annotations and document properties before sending.
